Altura Thermocool long-sleeve base layer review

Altura are doing a stunning job of producing kit that both looks and performs like it should cost a lot more, and the Thermocool is a fine example of this. It uses a variable knit, with different densities of fabric in different areas depending on the position on the body.

The result is a top that's a very good fit – it's close-fitting but isn't at all restrictive or binding, with incredibly good flexibility through the arms and shoulders. The very clever knit construction means that there are no side seams either.

This sounds a tiny detail but adds to overall comfort in a big way. Our only tiny niggle (and it won't be a problem for most riders), is that we'd like it to be a touch longer as our tall tester had to tuck it into his pants really rather firmly indeed.
