Lake TX212 shoes review

Everyone's feet are different, so the definition of a good cycling shoe often boils down to individual tastes. Even so, we're confident most riders will like Lake's TX212s. They're designed for triathletes but will suit anyone looking for comfy, well ventilated footwear.

The tops are covered in a wonderfully soft, elasticated mesh that allows your feet to breathe and move. At the same time, two oppositely placed Velcro straps keep your feet in place and make life easy when you're trying to cram them on. The bigger strap also has a tab that you can easily grip onto. Once you're off the bike there are grippy rubber sections underneath.

The only thing that would improve these shoes is a carbon fibre sole. Instead they have a fibreglass injected nylon one, which isn't especially stiff or light (375g, size 11). Still, it does mean they stand up to wear and tear well. And there's always the next model up, the TX312, to aspire to.
