Avenir Smoke sunglasses review

Eyewear is something that all cyclists should use. You only get two eyes and they're very useful, so why lose one to a flying stone or errant twig, especially when the protection you need is as good looking as this new Smoke model from Avenir and also blinding value at a penny under £20.

The Smoke comes with not one but four separate lens kits–hi-vis yellow, clear, standard smoke and polarised smoke–and swapping lenses takes a couple of seconds. The plastic frame has non-slip rubber inserts in the ear area and the nose piece for grip, and the ear stems are low profile and fit easily under helmet straps.

The square lenses have sufficient depth to stop any muck or trail debris flicking up under them, and when you're riding along head down giving it the beans the brow section of the frame is out of your eyeline. The budget eyewear market is a busy place, but Avenir's Smokes are the best value model we've tried.
