Prologo Double Touch bar tape review

If you've just pulled your best bike out of hibernation, chances are the bar tape is looking well past its best. Prologo’s new tape is a cunningly comfy yet control-friendly option for those using full-drop bars. In one of those “why hasn’t anyone thought of that before” simple, but very clever, moments, Prologo have made each length of Double Touch tape in two densities.

It’s all shock-absorbing cork impregnated EVA, but the bit that goes round the bottom of the bar is thinner, more durable ‘Strong Touch’ tape for a smaller diameter, firmer grip on the drops when you’re descending. It then morphs into fatter, more cushioned ‘Gel Touch’ tape above the brake hoods for a comfier cruising ride feel.

Our initial worries about not getting the right fatness wrapped onto the right part of the bar proved unfounded, and on slippery, potholed spring rides the tape has genuinely given a ‘best of both worlds’ feel to our bars. It comes up clean even after getting covered in chain oil or general winter gunk when we’ve had to do roadside repairs, and it’s available in black, white, blue, grey and red. It’s well priced too.
