SRAM Apex WiFli transmission (without brakes) review

SRAM'S Apex WiFli group offers the wide gear range of a triple chainset without the extra weight, making it a useful lightweight budget option for those with big hills to tackle or little legs.

While shifting isn't as smooth, Apex is both cheaper and 100g lighter than Shimano's 105 group. The wide gear range 'WiFli' option adds a longer cage rear mech and rear cassettes as big as 12-32t to the existing compact chainset option. This gives proper wall climbing/easy spin capability without the weight and complexity of a triple setup.

The trade-offs are bigger jumps between gears, which affects cadence control on flat sections, and a more clunky (even by SRAM standards) shift. The solid rather than hollow forged cranks are noticeably flexier in feel than big brother Rival too, keeping that our preferred WiFli choice if you can dig deeper into your pocket.
