Mavic Ksyrium Elite road wheelset review

The latest evolution of the Ksyrium Elite has excess weight milled from the rim to reduce inertia. Mavic claim a 20 percent increase in rim rigidity from only drilling the inner rim wall to screw in their well-proven, straight-pull aero spokes, and they’re certainly stiff.

The rims are asymmetrical and the rear is slightly deeper to deal with drivetrain stresses. This is one of the most direct wheelsets out there, with rider input producing instant forward motion over any terrain. We even raced these wheels in a cyclo-cross event, where the sweet handling, excellent braking and response were ideal.

On tarmac they give a firm ride, but their efficiency means you’ll get home faster. Well sealed, adjustable cartridge bearings and bombproof reliability mean the Elites can still more than hold their own. They’re supplied with a bearing adjustment tool, spoke wrench and aero spoke holder.
